The cultivation of sugarcane has become increasingly intense in Brazil, influenced by political and fiscal incentives, its expansion occurred mainly in the Center-South due to the greater availability of areas and geographic factors. Consequently, for its identification via remote sensing images, sugarcane has attributes that favor it, such as: being a semi-perennial culture, its texture, shape, the presence of carriers, among other aspects that indicates a remarkable spectral pattern of culture. In this context, this work aims to update the data of the areas planted with sugarcane in the municipality of Ituiutaba-MG in 2015, using remote sensing and geoprocessing techniques that consisted of the use of images in 5R6G4B color composition Of the Landsat 8 OLI (Operational Land Imager), acquired from April to October 2015 by the USGS (United States Geological Survey) database, for the period corresponding to the cane harvest in the region. The analysis of the information obtained by the images and the digital processing was performed through the visual interpretation on screen in the software QGis, whose result for the municipality was an area corresponding to 25.446,9 ha (9.8%), an increase of 24.703, 2 ha compared to the mapping of the year 2002.
